BHRLA's flagship conference returns to London on the 2nd & 3rd February 2027 with the theme State of Play: Business and Human Rights in a Changing Geopolitical and Technological Landscape.
As geopolitical uncertainty, shifting regulatory priorities and evolving stakeholder expectations continue to reshape the business environment, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) remain a vital framework for responsible corporate conduct.
Hosted by Clifford Chance LLP at their London headquarters, the BHRLA Conference 2027 will bring together leading lawyers, in-house counsel, academics, policymakers, and practitioners to examine the enduring relevance of the UNGPs and their implications for corporate governance, sustainability, and risk management. Through expert-led discussions and practical insights, delegates will explore how businesses can navigate emerging legal obligations, strengthen human rights due diligence, and build resilient governance frameworks in an increasingly complex global landscape.
Conference Co-Chairs: Stephanie Collins, Gibson Dunn; Emily Holland, Kirkland and Ellis and David Stepp, Crowell and Moring
Topics will include:
Board Governance in a New Geopolitical Era: How should corporate boards navigate a human rights landscape being reshaped by geopolitical and technological change? Sessions will examine emerging governance challenges, the frameworks companies are developing in response, and the role lawyers can play in helping boards navigate competing legal, commercial and stakeholder expectations.
Global Supply Chain Sustainability: Forced labour, critical minerals and the just transition are placing increasing pressure on companies to understand the long-term sustainability and resilience of global supply chains. The programme will examine emerging regulatory, policy and soft law trends and their implications for corporate due diligence, remedy, sourcing and stakeholder engagement.
Environment and Human Rights: Landmark judgments and advisory opinions at domestic and international levels are continuing to develop the relationship between climate change, environmental protection and human rights. Sessions will consider how evolving legal frameworks, claims and litigation strategies are redefining corporate accountability, governance and environmental and human rights risk.
